Position Interested In: District Representative - District 8

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

It would be an honor and a privilege to be elected to serve. Throughout my career and in my life, I have endeavored to serve and be of service, through my career, in my community and now as an elected official. I have participated in the NCLM for several years and served on the legislative policy committee.

Our municipalities are facing many challenges and changes across the state. Some similar and some different. But it is essential that we work together with other elected officials in our region. We can do this through the NCLM working with the five planning pillars, reaching and empowering citizens while expanding effectiveness of the league.

Through this new role, I would endeavor to provide good leadership, communication and work to add to the community's quality of life, through citizen engagement, economic development, and partnerships with counties, other governments and the private sector.
I would welcome the opportunity to serve.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I was elected in 2017 as the first African American woman to the Board of Commissioners for The Town of Waxhaw and re-elected in 2021. I was also elected by my fellow Board of Commissioner members to serve as Mayor Pro Tem in 2017 to present, again the first African American woman to serve in this capacity. I have worked with two different administrations, through growth within the Town and cultural changes. At times challenging but extremely rewarding and grateful for the opportunity to work with my community.

Prior to my election I served on the planning board for the Town of Waxhaw and with various committees in support of the programs for the town.
