Title: Council Member

Municipality: City of Jacksonville

Position Interested In: At-Large - Elected Official; District Representative - District 2

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

I would like to continue to work on the NCLM Board of Directors to continue to push the goals of a more equitable and collaborative environment between intestines, be they government or private sector on all levels so that we can achieve those goals.  If we cannot collaborate amongst all of the stakeholders we cannot achieve this goal.  Cooperation is the key.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

District 2 is heavily populated with service and veterans.  Not only do I have experience as a leader in the civilian population, my experience as an advocate gives me the experience to advocate on the State and Federal level for all in District 2.  Also, I am the Oversight Committee for Onslow, Craven, Carteret Counties for the Dix Crisis Center.  We are continuing to fight against substance abuse (concentrating mainly on opioid abuse an mental health) in my ares.  Onslow County and Carteret County Reentry Programs have partnered together to deal with the issue of recidivism for those that have been previously incarcerated.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.

On the Board of Governance we worked to streamline governing documents, our Constitution and Bylaws, to streamline, reduce redundancy and modernize the way we operate.   By working on various Boards as an elected official my community has created a reentry program and we are creating a jobs partnership with a business, so returning citizens can begin to earn a livable rage prior to release.  On the State and Federal I have worked with Military Committees to continue to make sure the needs of those that volunteered to put themselves in harms way are addressed.  As an artist I continue support what culture and arts bring to our community.
