Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

I have been involved with the League now for 11 years and find there is no greater tool for municipalities than the League. This is another way to better help my Town and further educate myself of government. Broadband is always been my pet peeve as i have worked hard to try to get it to children including my granddaughter who do not have it in the area they live in. No child today should be without internet. Covid has shown us the importance and need of having broadband in all areas across the state.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I am currently in my third term as an elected official. I serve on the County Parks and Recreation Board and have for 7 years. I serve on the Board of Directors for the High Country Council of Governments. Currently serving on the Executive Board for Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue. I'm always interested in serving as i find it gives me more knowledge on things that affect our community. I have served on the League's Tax and Finance and General Government committees. I currently serve on the League's Board of Directors in an At-Large position.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.

I went to Blowing Rock Elementary and graduated from Watauga High School. I retired from Appalachian State University with 38 years of service as a plumber. I served on the Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue as a volunteer and was the last volunteer Fire Chief for 30 years. I'm involved in many civic activities including Blowing Rock History and Arts Museum and the Blowing Rock Historical Society.
