Title: Council Member

Municipality: City of Raleigh

Position Interested In: Population-based Seat - Raleigh

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

NCLM has long supported municipal rights and voices, and it is essential that we have a strong coalition as North Carolina continues to remain a destination for transplants and economic development. As a member of this board I will work with my cohort to empower municipalities and NCLM to represent our interests at the state level, and to steward responsible growth and equitable economic development.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I have served on Raleigh City Council since 2019 as an at-large representative. Currently, I am the chair of the Economic Development & Innovation Committee and Vice-Chair of the Transportation & Transit Committee. My focus is on responsible development and innovation to accommodate Raleigh’s growing needs so that all Raleigh residents can live in a world-class city. My work on the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau ensures that Raleigh remains a top destination for business and economic investment.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.

I have lived in Raleigh since 2004 and attended North Carolina State University for my degree in political science and received my JD from North Carolina Central University School of Law. I am an attorney and practice family law where I’m partner at Gailor Hunt Davis Taylor and Gibbs, PLLC. I am the first openly LGBTQ person elected citywide in Raleigh, and a founding board member of the Stonewall Sports Inc and national LGBTQ and allied philanthropic sports league. I also serve on the board of directors for the TLC.
