Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.
After serving on the Executive Committee , and as Second VP, First VP, Co chair and Chair of the Finance Committee, and Building Committee, I feel prepared to serve as President of the League. Doing advocacy work on behalf of the League whether through being at the Legislature to support our Legislators who are supporting our advocacy goals or supporting legislation that supports the work we do in our cities every day for our citizens, I love to serve. It is so important to look at the foundation that supports quality service, that is invisible but the success of our cities depend on it (infrastructure).
The other most important role we play in leading our cities and this organization is what we do to encourage entrepreneurship. and business development. It is the life blood of our cities. The pandemic has brought this truth into sharper focus. Opportunities exist right now in building back to support and encourage business development through women and minority business startups and business expansion. If we can do this work, we will add trillions to our GDP nationally, that is new development, not taking a single thing from traditionally led business that already exists. This is how we build back with diverse equity now and future legacy throughout our communities. We must. We must develop the model that creates this equitable future through business development. All our futures depend on achieving this goal.
Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.
My commitment is better told in my service to my community that spans decades. Much longer than the decade I have spent as an elected Council Member and Mayor. My ending quote to the many speaking engagement across our community about Leadership, whether to the Rotary, Civitans, etc. or to elementary, middle school, high school or college students, my parting line is "When you find your place to serve, you have found your place to LEAD."
