Kathleen Ferguson

Title: Commissioner

Municipality: Town of Hillsborough

Position Interested In: At Large - Elected Officials

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

I have been honored to serve over the past year and have spent my tenure eagerly learning about League operations, program, and governance. While this knowledge has served my board and CoG colleagues well, I believe I have only recently reached the place where I am able to provide meaningful contribution to the Board’s business. The League’s role in advocacy and risk management has rarely been more necessary and the work more relevant. Service over the past year has enabled me to highlight the League’s work and issues within my Board and Town staff as well as within the TJCoG and CoG Forum, strengthening the collaboration. With the SoG in my backyard and ALC participation, League Board service has provided area electeds a local ear and voice supporting continued League/SoG collaboration. The COVID crisis, Census, 2020 election all are changing the public sector landscape. It would be an honor to help the League and my fellow electeds navigate the changing landscape with continued Board service.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I am in the seventh year of service as a Town Commissioner and am known for my commitment to multijurisdictional collaboration. Currently I serve as Hillsborough’s CoG delegate and have been honored to serve on both the CoG executive committee as well ad the CoG Forum. Additionally, I am deeply active in our community’s African American and Hispanic community watch, Orange County’s Partnership to End Homelessness, Orange County Reentry Council, Orange County’s Opioid Task Force, and just recently agreed to serve on the Orange County My Brothers/Sisters Keeper Advisory Board. Previously, I have chaired the County’s Economic Development Commission, served on the County Small Business Loan Fund Board, and served on local Tourism boards.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.

Professionally, my background includes technical marketing communications, sales and business development support. I am known for my network, service ethic, and creativity. I pioneered many of the current bidding/contracting-related roles that currently exist within IQVIA’s Research and Development organization and was honored to have been the first non-statistician to represent IQVIA’s Bios:Stat Programming and Reg Writing groups in delivery strategy and pricing capacities. I currently serve as the pricing model expert for IQVIA’s Lifecycle Safety (pharma/biotech product safety) organization.
