Being elected the first African American since the Town Of Teachey is one of the highlights of my life. I felt the torch of history was being passed on to me. The unusual events that led up to the election was a the changing of the polling place being moved further away at the last minute. Winning by one vote was a spiritual experience one of overcoming Crow Jim practices and being blessed and appreciate John Lewis and Dr. King for making my
election possible. I was the first elected African American mayor elected since the town was founded in 1878.
