Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

I bring an open mind to the table. Willing to analyze, access, assimilate and assist in making this better. The NCLM headquarters is a passion for me. I would like to see us accomplish a mix-use project and have additional revenue to help struggling cities. Being intentional and open to new ideas in pushing the 2030 Vision. Helping to maximized the quality of life for every city and town in North Carolina.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I was elected in 2015 to the Wilson City Council and ran unopposed in 2019. I serve on the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments, Wilson Downtown Economic Development Board, Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park Board and I also finishing my first year as a president appointee on the NCLM Board.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities. 

I have an undergraduate degree in Religious Education. Diploma in Business Management, M.A. and a Doctoral Degree in Religious Education. I have had 43 years of productive ministry in helping hurting people find hope. Currently, I am serving as Presiding Elder and Pastor in the A.M.E. Zion Church. Worked with the City of Wilson on Block by Block Neighborhood Revitalization by removing blighted houses and commercial building. In 2005 Founder of the Save A Youth Program serving over 350 student annually and creating employment for over 50 persons.

I am willing to work for the interest of all towns and cities in NC. It is important that in a changing world municipalities have greater control of its resources to help maximized their effort in a rapid changing culture. Advocacy for such becomes a mandate. Wilson has taken the steps and invested to ensure that we provide , quality water and broadband access to all our citizens. I would like to see more municipalities that have the resources to invest in quality water and broadband with state approval.
