Title: Mayor
Municipality: Town of Lewisville
Position Interested In: At Large - Elected Officials; District

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.
While all of the Vision 2030 principles are important, my primary interest is to make sure the League continues to have a strong, effective voice in the NC Legislature to protect the authority and autonomy of municipalities. Additionally, I would like to strengthen the League's resources in assisting municipalities in accomplishing their sustainability goals.
Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.
I've served for 22 years on the Lewisville Town Council with 8 years as mayor. I'm in my 5 term as mayor after running unopposed in the November 2021 elections. I was fortunate to join the town council just two years after our incorporation so I've had the great experience of helping to shape the town from its beginning. A significant part of what I do every day is to foster community engagement and ownership in who we are today as a town and what we can become in the future.
Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.
I grew up on an island in the Florida Keys (green with envy) and went to the same school from kindergarten to graduation. I was fortunate to receive a full two year scholarship to Florida Keys Community College in Key West (green with envy) and later transferred to the University of Florida where I received my BS in Journalism and Communications. My professional career has taken me to Washington, DC, Los Angeles, CA and Dallas, TX. before landing in Lewisville. I hope that I've made a meaningful contribution improving our community through my involvement and leadership in numerous civic and professional organizations (please see resume).

Throughout my life I've had so many wonderful opportunities to become engaged in the communities in which I've lived. My wife and I built a highly successful marketing, advertising and public relations company in the Triad allowing us to redirect (retire) in our early 60s. All through my career, politics (the body politic, not partisan politics) have been central to my profession. First as a lobbyist in DC and continuing to our political consulting business (one of the only firms in the state that worked with both democrats and republicans) I've had the opportunity to help place highly competent and dedicated individuals into elected leadership positions. I guess that's why I'm interested in serving with the league, so I can continue to help shape public policy particularly as it pertains to cities and towns in North Carolina.
