Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

First, I would like to say that I wish I had become involved in the League earlier in my elected leadership life. The relationships I have developed with fellow board members and the League staff have greatly advanced my professional knowledge and skills as well as my personal growth as an elected leader.

The activities of the League are essential in assisting cities and towns across the state, particularly in the areas of operational support, education and legislative engagement. If reelected to a board position I hope to continue to help in the League’s policy development, legislative activities and to make the most of our opportunity in how we develop/invest in our Raleigh property for the long-term sustainability and growth of the organization.

Quite simply, the League helps make cities and towns stronger. I very much wish to continue to support this mission.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I have served on the Lewisville Town Council for 26 years, 12 as mayor. Additionally, I have served on the NCLM Board of Directors, chairman of our MPO Transportation Advisory Committee, Piedmont Area Regional Transit board member, NC Mayors Association member, Elected Leaders of Forsyth County and a variety of appointed county and municipal volunteer committee positions.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities. 

Graduate University of Florida BS Journalism, owner of one of the Triad's top 5 advertising agencies, Leadership Winston-Salem, Leadership Lewisville Clemmons, Past Chairman Leadership Lewisville Clemmons, Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce board member, New River Conservancy board member, Lewisville Civic Club, Lewisville Historical Society, Vienna Civic Club, Novant Health Triad Region Board of Trustees Secretary/Treasurer, Medical Park Hospital Board of Trustees and a variety of other professional, community and civic organizations.
