Title: City Manager

Municipality: City of High Point

Position Interested In: Manager - At Large

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

The theme “Working As One.  Advancing All” resonates with me.  Life changed significantly for all of us in March 2020 and I believe the role of local leadership and our ability to collaborate were key indicators in ensuring resources were provided in our communities to help us weather the storm.  For many, the challenges did not stop with the pandemic as we began to see with fresh eyes, areas in need of focused attention and opportunities to reimagine the possibilities.  The League collectively represents the tapestry of communities in the State and there is an opportunity for that collaborative process to bring more perspectives to the table around both policy development and practical implementation.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

My career in local government spans over 20 years.  I’ve served in organizations from the Eastern part of the state to the Triad with populations of 30,000 to over 200,000. While serving in the formal role of Assistant City Manager or City Manager, I’ve had the opportunity to coordinate and facilitate the legislative agenda with elected officials, serve on taskforces, advocate for specific programs, and share information on best practices.  I also served in the past as president of the North Carolina City County Managers Association.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.

I have an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, a graduate degree from North Carolina State University and maintain my Credentialed Manager Designation though the International City County Managers Association (ICMA). Throughout my career I’ve served in various capacities on the boards of community agencies and participated in leadership development opportunities in the programs below:
