Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.
I would like to serve in a leadership position at the League in order to provide a younger perspective to the planning and shaping of Vision 2030 and beyond. Public service is a role that should not be taken lightly and deserves commitment and sacrifices. I look forward to providing a sincere level of commitment and honesty through my service within a leadership position with the League. I would like to help shape the process of how municipalities can change culturally and demographically. As well as, being able to adapt to the technological changes of the 21st Century.
Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.
I have been a City Council-member for 3 years. This is my first term as a council member and I am within my first year as the Mayor Pro Tem. My platform remains all things youth development, economic development and public safety. I serve on a few boards including, Carolina's Gateway Partnership, Upper Coastal Plain (alternative member), and an active member of the Edgecombe County Design Build Team. All three of these boards align with my political platform and help me serve people all across the City of Rocky Mount and abroad.
Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.
I graduated from North Carolina Central University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Some of my work includes but is not limited to an educator, social service worker, qualified professional, and entrepreneur. My community work evolves around youth development and at-risk communities. For the last three years I have led a 8 week summer camp entitled Leadership Academy. This academy serves young men ages 8-13 and focuses on all holistic development for young men. I've hosted numerous blood drives, voting rallies, voting registration clinics, community food truck rodeos, neighborhood meetings and many more.
