Title: Council Member

Municipality: City of Fayetteville

Position Interested In: At-Large - Elected Official; Population-based Seat - Fayetteville

Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030.

I would like to serve because the district I represent is essentially a city of it's own with a district. I've learned while representing such a diverse district it becomes easier to work with elected leaders from other municipalities to reach their goals and/or similar goals. I would like to continue this work within NC.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest.

I am elected to represent District 2 which is home to our downtown arts & entertainment center, newly renovated regional airport, VA Hospital, municipal services, Segra Stadium home of the Woodpeckers baseball team, Fayetteville State University – North Carolinas oldest second-oldest state-supported university and second oldest HBCU in North Carolina, future home to the NC History Center on the Civil War, Emancipation & Reconstruction, a host of community partners, and a diverse and welcoming community of proud residents and small locally owned businesses.  As a long-time resident of this city, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges that our community faces, as well as the incredible resilience and creativity of our residents. Throughout my career in public service and community advocacy, I have worked tirelessly to promote equity, access, and opportunity for all members of our community. From organizing neighborhood cleanups to advocating for affordable housing, expanded transportation options, safe communities and quality infrastructure for residents and businesses, I am committed to making our city a more livable, equitable, and just place for all.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities.

I have a high school diploma with some college experience.
